adoption update: information station

We’re halfway through the process Children’s Home Society & Family Services calls “PAC” (Pre-Adoptive Classes).  So far we have been in several small and large group presentations on attachment, “adoption is/isn’t”, your child’s origins (country specific), adopted persons panel, and were supposed to have had a birth parents panel but none of them showed.  The poor presenter had never had it happen before.  I guess one couple got a late start and were stuck in traffic, and another mom forgot about it all together.  Oh well, that was our last session, so we were spent anyway.

Now we are in our 2nd day of classes, and have upcoming sessions about transracial/transcultural parenting, post-adoption resources, and we will also hear from a panel of adoptive parents.

This is FASCINATING. Dan and I have had several good talks about what we are getting ourselves into, and are looking forward to several more.  We have a long road ahead of us, but we are BOTH very excited.  Dan is excited and raring to go, I am excited and overwhelmed.  This is indicative of our personalities for those of you who might not know us very well.  I am typically the scared rabbit, and Dan is the charging stallion.  We balance each other well.  I think we are going to be great parents don’t you?
