busy life

I haven’t blogged in some time, and there’s a reason.  It’s called a busy life. I found this funny picture of myself, and I’ve deemed it my “busy life” face.
I have been working hard with my “fellow laborer” at church getting things pulled together for Children’s Ministries fall kick off Sunday which is this next weekend.  I’ve also been working on a home study update which includes filling out a partial application again, a DHS fact sheet, a background history affidavit (requires notary), and getting physicals again which require doctors approval/signatures.  Our social worker came on Friday and just had a short interview with us, explaining we are VERY close to referral.  To say that we are excited is the biggest understatement, but we must “settle” for using our language’s best options sometimes.
We also celebrated our 12th year of marriage together on Aug 29.  That was monumental yet a little anti-climactic thinking we would have our referral by now, but it’s ok....just one more year to enjoy ONLY each other in this family of ours.  Another timeuserupper (my new word) has been the joy of imagining what an Orphan Care ministry could look like at our church with a friend of mine.  We attended that conference back in the spring, and have been working since then to find people to come alongside us in the form of a leadership team.  We finally had the courage to present our ideas to leadership at church, and have been welcomed with open arms.  We are going to attend a global team meeting soon to see how our team can be involved in what our church is already doing as part of the EFCA’s Global Fingerprints projects in Africa, Germany and now possibly India.  Again, to say we are excited just doesn’t quite cut it.  But we are.  So, my friend and I are heading to yet another conference this week in Nashville - Empowered To Connect.  This one is focusing on how to “help and not hurt” by starting orphan care/adoption ministries within your local church, and also around attachment issues for the adoptive family.  I will come home exhausted from the drive, the topic, and the burden for this ministry, but sooooo ready to get started doing our part.
God is so good to use us.  He has never “needed” us, yet he uses each one of us to complete part of his divine plan for the humanity of this world.  It’s really quite humbling if you think it through.
