something for the village127 newsletter this month

We waited, and then we waited some more. We waited until we thought it was not humanly endurable to wait anymore. But then we waited again. We had no idea the joys, sorrows, excitements, disappointments that we would experience along the way that have deepened our walk with God, strengthened our characters, and taught us how to love more.

Adoption isn't for the faint of heart, I've heard it said. I would say adoption is for the faint of heart. My heart was faint, cracked, and hurting. It needed healing in a way that only God could handle. I had been down a long road of infertility and miscarriage that led us to the point of choosing adoption. God planted a seed of hope in us that one day he would join us with a child of His choosing born in Ethiopia. We began praying for a face, not just any face, but our face. Our precious little brown face that had no distinctive features at first. Now he does. His name is Tate Temesgen (Cheerful, Thanks Be To You God). He embodies the meaning of his name so well. The eyes on his face are bright, the little nose wrinkles up with each smile, his mouth reveals the sweetest little set of teeth on a milk chocolate background. His laughter fills our hearts and home, he has become family to us, and we are home to him. Only God could pull something like this off. To Him we are utterly thankful, and in Him completely amazed.

If your heart feels a hundred miles from God, you need to exercise it. There are lots of ways to do this, and adoption was the way God chose for us. Our hearts feel as if they have run a marathon in trust, patience and peace. God is so very good to place the lonely in families, to place children in lonely families. Thanks to those who prayed for us probably even more than we prayed for ourselves, please enjoy this child with us! We feel blessed to have so many who already love this little guy. It takes a village! :)
